"Another one, eh?" The busboy, Leo, a young man who always seemed to be brimming with energy, slapped the review onto the pass. Chef Isabella, perched precariously on a milk crate, barely glanced up. Her movements were slow, deliberate, as if each action required a monumental effort. Her gaze was fixed on the flickering flame under a simmering stockpot.

The heat radiated from the stove, a suffocating embrace, adding to the general feeling of pressure. Her brow was slick with perspiration, but it wasn't the heat that made her insides clench. It was the weight of the last few months, the endless grind of 16-hour days and the constant pressure to be better, to create something exceptional.

The review itself seemed to float in the periphery of her awareness, a buzzing insect that she couldn't bring herself to swat. "Bland," it sneered. She let out a long, shaky breath, the metallic tang of exhaustion coating her tongue.
